Water Budget
Scientific water resource management is a fundamental pillar of local development and water security. In Kerala, where rainfall is the primary source of water, it is essential for every Local Self-Government Institution to accurately assess its water availability and water demand while planning development initiatives. With this objective, the Poothrikka Grama Panchayat Water Budget Report 2024–2025 has been prepared.
The report presents a comprehensive study and analysis of the Panchayat's topography, rainfall, surface water, groundwater, and various water resources, along with water demand across different sectors, including domestic use, agriculture, livestock, industry, commerce, and public institutions. The primary objective of this water budget is to evaluate the balance between available water resources and sector-wise water consumption, and to provide scientific guidance for future water conservation measures and development planning.
This report has been prepared under the leadership of the Haritha Keralam Mission, with the collaboration of various government departments, technical experts, and active participation from the local community. It serves as a foundational planning document to strengthen the conservation of the Panchayat's water resources, promote rainwater harvesting, enhance groundwater recharge, encourage the efficient use of water, and ensure long-term water security.
